Prepping Mistakes: The Big No-Nos for Your Preparedness Plan

December 11, 2024

There are two primary prepping mistakes that most people make: the ones that you know and those that you never realize until things are too late. It’s up to you to decide which is more dangerous of these two but if you want to be truly prepared, you have to stop making all mistakes once and for all. Remember this: you do not know what you do not know.

Here are top mistakes that you have to avoid at all costs:

1st Mistake: Talking Too Much

Despite the rise of the prepper movement, most people are not really aware or are skeptical when it comes to the scenarios related to end of the world. If you try talking with them, you will realize right away that do not stand a solid chance to make them believe what you believe in.

In addition, even if you talk with another prepper, saying a lot of information can always work against you. Every person can change his or her view during times of chaos so one who might be a worthy ally in peacetime can become an enemy after the collapse, someone who will do everything just to get their hands to your supplies.

2nd Mistake: Not Being in Good Shape

Many preppers who are aged 45 and above tend to overlook this essential aspect. Once disaster strikes, the very last time that you would want to become is overweight, with little muscles or joint mobility that are not strong enough to help you in facing the unexpected. You can never walk out of any disaster. You have to run, jump, climb or make your way out of riots or fight other people if the need arises. You might have guns but it is your determination and physical strength that will let you win fights against others. Strength is not always in numbers or in guns. Take note that it is all about survival of the fittest so you really have to be fit.

3rd Mistake: Failure to Prepare to Bug Out

You have probably heard about the age-old debate about bugging out and bugging in. However, it seems that people choose to prepare for things that are much easier. This is the very reason why a lot of people choose to just bug in since the only thing you have to do is spend your money on water, food and ammo. While there’s a whole lot more to these but the point is that people always choose to go the easier route. It is recommended to focus on preparing to bug out since this is harder. And as far as your life is concerned and the lives of those that you love, it does not matter how hard it is to do something. You just need to do it. When you are prepared to bug out, you can find that prepping to bug in is just a mere child’s play.

4th Mistake: Keeping Your Stockpile in One Place

You never know where you will end up during disaster. You are probably at home, at the bug out location, in the bunker or anywhere else. While it is going to be more difficult to manage, you have to spread your stockpile in all locations to which you have to add your bug out bag, safe room and bug out vehicles.

5th Mistake: Prepping for Very Few Scenarios

There are people who tend to get fixated on a single event and this is the only one that they prepare for. For instance, many people think that dollar can collapse and a chain of events will happen. While this can possibly happen, there are still many other events that are worth prepping for. These include electric shocks, assaults, sinking cars, carbon monoxide, bicycle events and extreme heat.

These prepping mistakes must be completely removed from your system to ensure the best results from your preparedness plan.
